Lydia Warner
I am a multi-disciplinary illustrator specialising in digital and analogue drawing. I often finds inspiration from a mixture of fantasy, surrealism and archive fashion magazines, building post apocalyptic and dystopian landscapes from them. However, towards the end of my last year at Brighton University, took a slightly different approach – inspired by nature, botanical imagery and pattern making.
The illustrations in this series were inspired by trips to both the Booth museum and Viktor and Wynd museum in London. I was fascinated by the taxidermy bug collections they had and thought they were visually very interesting. I wanted to merge this with my interest in illustrating the female figure in unconventional ways and so that’s where the human/bug hybrids in the centre of my prints were born. I often find that primary research and visiting exhibitions and museums are what fuel my creative process and help me to further develop small ideas into fully developed projects.
