Kseniia Zubytska
This comic presents 4 perspectives of the same situation, perceived by 3 diffferent people, with different sub-personalities. The second page is the “objective” page- as an outside observer would see it. Sound mental health is this mythical place in the modesrn world, but at the same time something we should have from birth, like birds who have feathers, but cannot fly.
Artist statement
Kseniia is an illustrator and comic book artist from Ukraine, now based in Brighton. ‘I have a deep interest in psychology, character design and storytelling. I am in love with complex problems in art, from more painterly colours to accurate shading of shapes. I may start my pieces traditionally, but can quickly move to digital when needed. I love working on editorial briefs that challange my way of thinking and utilise the whole range of my creative skills. People have said that my work is quite expressive and that’s something I have been mastering for a while now. Although, I tend to work figuratively, I love the challenge of abstract pieces. My roots of Ukrainian academic drawing classes will never stop influencing the way I work and that is something I am proud of.’ Kseniia uses many different traditional media and techniques from coloured pencils to gouache and monoprinting. The main themes of her art are relationships, atmosphere and experimental storytelling.
