Isabelle Quille
As a visual communicator I strive to immerse my audience in the world I am creating, I want my audience to be excited and intrigued by the world I have created; through sensory elements such as texture and sound. This year I have explored stop motion animation and digital animation. My latest project on English Country Gardens highlights this intrigue in exploring a variety of different animation methods and is one of my most successful animations.
Although I enjoy creating these animations, my real passion is in creating and making; building sets and characters that are exciting and challenging for myself. This year my animations have included Needle Felting, which was a challenge to work with but very rewarding. In this exhibition you will see how I use materials and making to explore a topic or theme and how these making methods have woven their way into my animations and sequential work.
The following images are highlights of my set and animation “What is an English Country Garden?”. This animation follows creatures such as bees and butterflies around an English Country Garden. The animation is aimed at children, it features interactive content and helps them identify the key features of an English Country Garden.
The garden I created is in inspired my Grandparents garden; they have such a wonderful and vibrant garden full of wildlife and wonder that I wanted my set to be just as exciting and magical for children. The set is a combination of lots of model making techniques and materials. I enjoy creating bright and bold environments, full of life and texture, as you will see in the imagery below!
The full animation can be viewed on my Vimeo page linked here and below https://vimeo.com/userquilleisabelle1999
The image above is of my model set and needle felt dogs. This is what is on display at the in-person exhibition in Brighton.
“Sills Street” is animated title sequence based on the book “Mr Scruff” by Simon James. This title sequence is what I imagine the title sequence for “Mr Scruff” would look like. The set is hand made by me, with all elements painted in watercolour.
The characters are made from wire frame and needle felt and were animated in stop motion using Dragon Frame. I also animated elements of the characters in Procreate to add a digital effect.
