Ashleigh Sullivan
My name is Ashleigh Sullivan (AKA Ash Louiso) and I’m a multidisciplinary artist who specialises in illustration, fine art and also dabbles in animation. Not keen to limit myself, my style and influences are varied and versatile, enabling me to be open to different creative processes.
I work predominantly by hand and often render my work digitally using various software. Experimental with material (for example, playing around with ink, watercolour/acrylic/gouache paints, as well as coloured pencils, felt tips and markers, or digitally using my Wacom Tablet).
I draw inspiration from everyday life, culture, my imagination, street art and architecture, nature, psychology, and social commentary. My second biggest passion is music and this proves an integral source of inspiration towards my creations.
I dabble in music production as a hobby and enjoy an eclectic mix of genres, my love for music is often reflected In the work I produce (some of which can be seen here). For two of my self-directed projects I centred my briefs on music-related themes; A Hip-Hop project and a House music/clubbing Animation. Here I have included a selection of work from both music inspired projects, and another from a film Title Sequence Animation.
1 – ‘Ecstacy’
I decided to create an Animation celebrating Classic House music and the clubbing scene during the late 1980’s to late 90s era. I created an original animation entitled ‘Ecstacy’ with an accompanying soundtrack of my original music (a Classic House inspired track that I created). The title is intentionally misspelled as the video depicts a woman’s Ecstasy/LSD induced journey through a Night Club and her various intoxicated encounters and hallucinations throughout the night. I attempted to convey the psychedelic, trippy effects of being under the influence and really capture the scenario of her falling in love due to the pill, as well as the ecstasy of the house music. 2 – ‘Title Sequence’
Stills from a title sequence animation I created for the 90’s Basketball film ‘White Men Can’t Jump’.
3 – ‘Hip-Hop’ Project
A visual exploration into Hip-Hop culture, it’s Rappers, culture, Street Art and general Aesthetics. Here I have included a couple of images from this project.
