Anastasios Nyfadopoulos
I invite the observer to become part of the superorganism that evolves when we interact and collaborate. I lived through the greatest socio-economic crisis in Greece since the civil war as an artist, active citizen, and activist; from protests, illegal art on the walls of banks, and public spaces, to the public artwork “Crisis,” that was unveiled in Athens in 2015, referring to the reverberations of the socioeconomic crisis on humanity. I remember reflecting on freedom since I was a kid. I create to liberate my self and the people around me. Diving deep and flying high towards freedom, in 2017, I lived with monks and nuns in monasteries in forests on mountains. I approach the creative process as the meditative processes I learned. As in meditation, I observe my breathing, so I observe every move I make, as much as I can. As I experience love for myself and for the world around me, what I create stems from this love. I am embodying in my work the principles of interconnectedness and perpetual change not only through the concept, theme, and physical appearance but also through the materials, and the creative process. My process involves sculpture, video art, performance, and material research. My material research focuses on carbon and basalt fiber, plant-based resin, and mycelium, the synergy of man-made made matter and natural resources. Finally, I grow an independent collaborative organisation that will give participating artists equal rights, decision-making authority, and added freedom.
