The Weight of Illness: A Sonic Expression

“The Weight of Illness” is an immersive audio-visual installation translating the personal experiences and emotions of time spent in hospital. Exploring sound as a powerful emotional and narrative tool, utilising field recordings, spatialised audio and sound design to create a sonic landscape that sits between contrasting elements, obscuring conventional musicality by blending raw, textural elements of noise with traditional melodic composition. A melting-pot of nuanced dichotomy: organic and artificial, human and machine, the intersection of science and art. Translating an individual’s experience into a collective understanding, encouraging introspection for our shared human experience, empathy, perception and highlighting sound’s transformative capability.

Please note, the linked is an online version of the piece, and is the combination of both the audio and visual elements to the installation. The audio has also been mixed down to stereo as opposed to the 3.1 surround that the designed for the piece.
