“Space crafts” is a project exploring how contemporary ceramics can capture the idea of big unknown, space travel and space itself. The aim was to create a landscape of another world by producing sculptural pieces that do not fit in this reality and to introduce the audience to my utopian world of science fiction. My work is inspired by the aesthetics of 50s, 60s, and 70s and supported by a contemporary vision of space travel. I was heavily influenced by the space race, architecture and Stanislaw Lem’s books. Research for this project included making over sixty stoneware glaze testes to create oddly looking alien textures and colours inspired by sci-fi pop culture. I believe that the authenticity of my work comes from my unique approach to colours, textures and the combination of glazed and unglazed surfaces as well as the merge of perfectly symmetrical shapes and those carefully developed glazes.
