In the 19th century expressions of love between male friends were acceptable in Western society. By the mid 20th century, attitudes had changed and physical affection between men was seen as a sign of deviant sexuality. This project looks at what it means in terms of masculinity in the 21st century when men show that they care for each other.
These images are about the male body; clothed or unclothed; men with other men or men on their own, which may lead to assumptions about them based on received ideas of what constitutes masculinity. Do these assumptions have any value at a time when the nature of masculinity itself is being seriously challenged?
