Sebastian F. Mahon (b. 1992) is an Irish photographer currently based in Brighton, UK. He is a co-founder of AGORA Collective and chief designer of AGORA Magazine. His practice reflects upon the banal, quotidian, and how the familiar is made strange through picturing. Through his portrait-making process Sebastian considers the tenuous relationship between photographer, subject, and spectator.

To remember the future, we must first be able to see it. My experience of time is often phantasmic, arriving in a tumultuous state. Memory becomes achronological, only to reveal itself hauntologically through pictures. Departing / Departed (working title) is an ongoing body of work reflecting upon the picture as an object of recall. The series presents pictures of the banal, tentatively interwoven to create a rhizome. Through production, representation, and interpretation, non-hierarchical gateways emerge. This collection of field notes from the quotidian maelstrom enchants the everyday, makes visible the overlooked.
