RENEW – ALTERNATIVE BRIDAL COLLECTION
For my final project, I wanted to focus on bridalwear and break the tradition of the bride wearing white by adding print to garments that can also be worn past someone’s wedding. We are seeing a shift from the white wedding dress, and the modern and non-conventional bride is wanting to wear something more personal on their special day, as well as choosing a more sustainable option.
Like people renew vows, this concept allows people to renew their sentimental wedding garments and create a new life for their bridalwear that can be worn to other special occasions, instead of being left in the attic never to be seen again.
I have taken inspiration from symbolic florals associated with wedding bouquets as well as Honiton lace which was well known as a part of Queen Victoria’s wedding dress. I have also been inspired by fabric manipulation in fashion and have experimented with different types of fabric manipulation throughout this collection.
