Reflecting upon the relationship between movement and stillness, ‘Between Fragments and Wholes’ explores the conflicts and comparisons between photography and film, their connection to time and translation of reality. The work raises questions about the assumptions we make about visual narratives on account of what is hidden and what is revealed.
The act of falling sits as a visual metaphor for change, a transitional moment that initiates a change in being and in movement. Fragmented moments of falling sit together, examining a motionless reality of which we can only presume what happened before and after. Accompanying the still images, a moving image piece shifts between real time and slow motion, emphasising the fractured nature of the still image, as well as films ability to represent reality as it flows and evolves in front of us through movement.
