THE MASK

My project revolves around the concept of masking and hiding a part of oneself or one’s identity, but behind a physical mask. Many people in modern society still feel the need conceal parts of themselves, either from friends or family, and I wanted this comic to be a message of solidarity and acknowledgement of the hardship and turmoil that comes with masking, and eventual support when the mask is finally removed. This project comes from somewhere very personal to me, and I hope that when others read my comic, they don’t feel so alone.

Page 1 establishes the characters and setting, and an introduction to the "masking".
Page 7 depicts the struggle that some face when "masking" for too long, and hiding oneself can become a burden too heavy to bear.
Page 11 demonstrates the solidarity shown by others when the mask is finally lifted, sending a message of support and love.
This is the first poster I created as part of my project. It depicts one of the final pages in my comic in full colour.
This is the second poster in my project. This displays the four characters' masks shown in my comic, one slightly different from the others.
As an extra, I created a hand-made flipbook showing a character unmasking. It is fully customisable as it is only held together via a bulldog clip, so I am able to remove and add pages as I see fit.
