What Divides 'Us' and 'Them'? Where does the Identity of Asians exist under the Western Viewpoint?
The folding screen is believed in Korea as it separates the boundary between life and death. It is used in the traditional Korean ritual, ‘Jeasa’, a family event, which is currently far away from anything to me as an international student. Using the element of ‘dividing’ of the folding screen, the intention is to conceptually express the alienation of East Asian immigrants who suffer from generalizations of Asian culture.
The screen is made of vintage Kimonos from a thrift shop, tacked with red thread and fixed on a hardboard frame.
