I have been an avid fan of animation since a very young age, shows like the adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Invader Zim and Batman the animated series would be my every day. That is, when I wasn’t drawing. The first characters I started to draw decently from a young age was characters from the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise. The first characters I drew well were Sonia from Sonic Underground and Tikal from the Sonic game Sonic Adventure DX. Skipping forward to the now, while in education at the University of Brighton, for my final year I have created an animation that like many that had come before it, is about mental health. I really want to strike a chord with my animation and express how exactly mental health effects many in our daily lives. Most people with mental health issues that try to reach out for help from friends or family go unheard and so as a result many suffer in silence. I want people to feel seen, know there are others who feel the same way and are also healing all at different speeds. In my animation today I have animated it to be about a cookie girl dealing with self-destructive behaviour because she feels no one likes her for who she is, sheerly because she dresses and looks a little different but has a heart of gold. When all she wants is companionship.
