Khazar Davaran
In my photographic practice, I explore the complexities of human relationships and advocate for human rights. Through photography, I aim to capture the essence of the human experience. In the upcoming exhibition, I present a project consisting of two photographs that delve into the profound longing for freedom that resides within each of us.
My project centers on portraying women’s innate desire for freedom. Despite the myriad social, political, religious, and geographic obstacles that attempt to restrain them, women continue to strive for liberation. Through my images and accompanying narratives, I seek to shed light on their courageous pursuit of freedom, while also emphasizing the importance of amplifying their voices and stories.
The project captures the tensions between modern life and the persistence of traditional norms and conservatism. It confronts the taboos that society has imposed, particularly regarding the expression of love and affection. In many religious and traditional communities, intimate displays of affection are deemed indecent and forbidden. This project delves into the consequences of such taboos, revealing the hidden love and desire that exist behind closed doors. One photograph, characterized by its blurry aesthetic, symbolizes the act of love being sensored and concealed. The second photograph depicts a couple standing apart, conforming to societal expectations, while hinting at the woman’s yearning to break free from these limitations.
