‘Isolated’ is a VR (Virtual Reality) based work that aims to isolate the viewers away from the busy, bustling exhibition environment by creating a multi-sensory assisted virtual environment. The viewers will be transported into an abstracted expansive warped forest as depicted in a painting, creating an illusion that the subject has been transported into said painting. The piece aims to be as immersive as possible but also alien or uncanny, making a surreal landscape believable. ‘Isolated’ attempts to divorce itself from the degree show environment as much as possible by creating an new opposing environment that heavily contrasts in its use of an expansive space and colourful surroundings, while still existing within the degree show’s space. The work takes place on a 2 x 2m area of astroturf, acting as a platform to physically explore from within the virtual world.
