This mini series of postage stamp designs depict fruits found in my home country, Cambodia, drawing on designs of past postage stamps and contemporary botanical illustration as a means to explore cultural identity. Subjects chosen for stamps can represent a country’s history, culture, flora and fauna, or environment, and these fruits were chosen to celebrate the diversity and abundance of nature’s bounty in Cambodia which are valued in multiple ways. As is common in many parts of the world, in Cambodian society fruit is shared and enjoyed within families, and among friends and neighbours, both at meal times and as a focal point of informal gatherings. In addition to being an integral part of people’s everyday lives, the fruits also have symbolic value within Cambodian culture and are economically significant as produce in local and export markets.
