As a multimedia artist I explore the multidisciplinary within my practice experimenting in clay, Stoneware glazes and using props such as crystals. My main theme throughout my work is displaying the exploration of the anatomy and dimensions of the skull. The three skull pieces are handmade from stoneware clay pieces with a dripping colour effect inspired by the aurora borealis otherwise known as the northern lights; this theme has been inspired by the fascination of my childhood dream to see them. The inspiration comes from exploring the work of Canadian mountain pottery that I grew up with, collected by my grandmother. I have been focusing on the connection I have with these different themes and it all relating back to childhood and my mom’s side of the family being doctors gaining anatomy knowledge, studying anatomy from my grandfather’s medical books. To achieve my degree piece, I have experimented in clay, shaping it in abstract versions of a skull in order to quickly produce colour testers to represent the spirits descended from the aurora.
