Having gained a Diploma in Design and Innovation I worked as a Technical and Research Officer within Planning Policy. I assisted with the adoption of The Local Plan, leading on the production and publication of the Authority Monitoring Report and 5 year Housing Land Supply position. During this time I completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Degree, before joining an Architectural Consultancy as a CAD Technician.
As a CAD Technician I was responsible for taking projects through the entire development process – from conception to completion. I have experience in undertaking site surveys, preparing detailed Planning and Building Regulation drawings/applications and liaising with engineers and contractors during the build out. I become involved with planning appeals and, having produced appeal statements and reports, I was increasingly interested in the planning stage of the process, and subsequently the opportunity of completing the MSc Town Planning Chartered Apprenticeship became available.
I now work at Rother District Council as an Assistant Planning Officer, within the Development Management section, while completing my MSc Town Planning Chartered Apprenticeship. I primarily deal with householder planning applications and certificates of lawful development. I am enjoying the challenge of studying while working again and with my continued personal and professional development I look forward to becoming a full member of the RTPI in the not too distant future.
