Architecture in the Posthuman Threshold:
A Prototype for Carbon Positivity
This project proposes a theoretical concept for carbon positive architecture. Set in a Posthuman reality enduring a climate crisis where carbon neutrality is no longer suitable. Posthumanism is a philosophical ideology which questions the agency of the human, and the hierarchy between us and the environment in which we live. In a Posthuman world, the environment is the focal point and humanity caters to its needs. The project interprets this architecturally by following a strategy of Preparation, Production, Construction and Reclamation. To grow the key materials required, research and develop manufacturing and construction technologies in order to use these materials, build the architecture with them, provide industry, and finally offer itself back to nature. A timeline not determined by construction processes but by the natural environment. This project has aspired to dissolve the traditional notions of thresholds; both ideological and architectural. Public and private activities are encouraged to interact within the European Ash in Construction Research and Development Institute, internal and external spaces are ambiguous, and by the end of its lifespan, the architecture built by humans is reclaimed by the environment in a world with shifting priorities.
