Hannah Coppin
Sun burnt skin, face lifts, receding hairlines and unflattering nonconventional angles interest me in their subtle absurdity. This category shares and ironic, humorous feel, and underlines the nature of the human body being complex and flawed.
My work explores the idea of nature existing with a new heightened sense of agency. A reoccurring figure in my work is a windswept person, who’s composure is tested and thrown into bizarre contrition. The rendered body causes it to become a spectacle, with the body falling victim to an invisible force that seeks to steer it off course. The affected figures refuse to acknowledge what is happening to them and continue to smile and remain oblivious. This obliviousness further encourages the audience to question the way we reconcile our physical selves with the emotional and psychological landscapes that we inhabit.
