As an artist specialising in printed textiles, I was drawn to the subject of classic cars.

My final project is called ‘Hot Rod!’

‘Hot Rod’
A motor vehicle that has been especially modified to give it extra power and speed.

Hot Rod is a collection of printed textiles celebrating its subjects history and diversity within the UK and America.  I have produced this collection through the exploration of drawings, airbrushing, traditional screen printing and digital design.

I have aimed to encapsulate the ‘fun’ and creative element within owning a hot rod, wether it be driven as a daily car or used to race at the drag strip. I decided to study this niche subject to introduce the classic car scene to a younger demographic.

My collection is separated into 3 groups; 2 menswear collections named ‘The Pits’ and ‘The Hot Rodder’ and 1 womenswear collection named ‘The Track’. Each group is designed for high-end unisex streetwear, catering to people of any age, gender and background, opposed to the limited amount of automotive print designs on the market.

As there are many women that attend car show events across the country, it seemed only necessary to produce ‘The Track’ collection, designed exclusively for women, with numbers of female drag racers increasing year on year.

My drawings are a forefront of the design, with a wide range of sources inspiring the story behind prints made for placements and repeats. Imagery includes everything from traditional hot rods at Bonneville Salt Flats in Ohio in the 50s, to current day drag racing at Santa Pod raceway in Bedfordshire.
