Gemma Maguire
In the past, my work frequently took on a single screen installation format depicting tropes of the horror or nature genres, occasionally combining the two. More recently, my work has experimented with more dream-like, installations of two or three projections to focus on a calming and thought-provoking space for the audience to experience their own minds.
Using three projections across three walls, “Amber Haze”, is an immersive installation. Drawing on tones inspired by the natural phenomenon of the sunset and finding inspiration from nature, this project is directed towards improving mental well-being in students. Sitting for 10 minutes in this piece will help reduce stress and relax the mind of the viewer.
Previously, I have done extensive research into early European filmmaking, particularly German Expressionism cinema. Accordingly, in future projects I am keen to experiment with this knowledge to create more immersive spaces for education that combine my passion for film history with my intrigue into immersive visual art.
