Through my practice I seek to mitigate the anxiety caused by the physical and psychological restrictions we have all lived through throughout the pandemic in the hope of bettering ones mental health. I am interested in how making becomes a process of healing; as a place for the mind to seek solace through imagination.I mainly use the subject of knitting as a starting point; exploring the repetitive process of creating something new with the hand, as a meditative experience to generate a wealth of materials and images. I then create images directly from knitted fragments, using digital and analogue technologies to as an indexical trace or shadow of the original. I also incorporate text, as printed and embroidered words along with video and sound. These elements come together in the work to create something abstract and immersive, generating resemblances to the sea which echos a calm, restorative, healing, sensory and escapist environment.
