For my final collection I have explored different Middle Eastern rug designs and looked at distorting them to apply a modernised twist. My colour palette took inspiration from the traditional and non-traditional aspects of carpets as well as being inspired by artists such as Faig Ahmed to distort these original cultural shapes and patterns.
I used a plethora of print techniques such as Devore, as I think this technique adds depth to the collection, as well as adding a further modern element to the rich primary imagery I was using. I have also used acid discharge dying rather than pigment printing to mirror my market research, which focuses on designing for a high-end market. By using an acid dye technique, the fabric has been elevated to suit a higher end target audience as I prefer the print to look more integrated.
My final collection has also experimented with embroidery on top of traditional carpets to change the feel of the classical rug into something reimagined and contemporary.
