'Imaginative contact with the outer world renews our inner being'
- Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space
What is it about your things?
All the things and objects, around us at all times. Each one builds us up, tells us stories, shows us the new and reminds us of the old.
Do they remind us of ourselves?
Do the things we make to use make us in our use?
In the twenty first century of distraction and noise, what measure do our things measure?
What is it in them that can plant us firmly in the haptic, in the physical, and plant us gladly?
Is there a discernible language in objects which invites connection, engagement and communication to us, as their users?
Can we figure out what makes them valuable aside from our associations and predilections?
I’ll try to picture that conscious connection with things which talk about things.
I’ll lay it out, to see what you think about things, and what I think about things. Maybe we will get there together.
