Joyful Guided Freedom at New Cinque Ports Way
Clarissa’s work this year has been centred around the themes of guided freedom and finding the joys of every day. The site of Cinque Ports Way in west St. Leonard’s near Hastings is currently mundane and has very restricted accessibility. There are currently no leisure facilities for the people of St. Leonard’s and would have to travel to the east of Hastings.
New Cinque Ports Way is a place for the locals, as well as visiting tourists to enjoy St. Leonard’s, with joy, injected into every aspect they experience, whilst allowing the users to curate their individual journeys. Whether this is through attending the indoor or outdoor cinema, getting their nails done, eating at the restaurant, having a stroll along the urban walks, or simply enjoying what the beach of St Leonard’s has to offer.
Women of colour are an essential aspect of Clarissa’s work in her other modules. Subtly incorporating them into her design through the women’s shelter and the cinema showing women and of colour produced films were essential to showcase values important to her.
Visitors no longer feel restricted in their accessibility, but instead, choose New Cinque Ports Way as a place for enjoyment.
