Chris Eccles
The work centres on an association with masculine pride. Using photographs of wrestlers to depict them at some limbo between embrace and violence. It leads to abstraction in uncertainty. There is a playfulness to embrace that gets lost in the concern of establishing rank and order. The feelings become abstract through contradiction and the balance is therefore unattainable. It is an exploration of the body and how it is used to create and unleash repressed thoughts in freedom of wondering, which leads to being more aware of the thoughts and feelings upon reflection. The monoprints are a reaction to violence of the men and the repressed embrace that is less focused in their acts but becomes present in my paintings.
Feelings of body are then mixed in the mind to create something more natural, and the marks help make me aware how I am feeling in the mind. The three collages were created simultaneously as a reliance on intuition and refusal for explanation so the body can do as it pleases. Repetition is important in the work like a mantra in helping the mind cope with constants that take over. To repeat can help the logic get lost so the individual can form relationships with the work.
