My specialism is womenswear. I am a designer interest in creating a current and relevant version of futuristic that is not rooted in the futuristic of the past. This means working with sustainable materials. The shiny plastic future present in the past is irrelevant we must look to what is progressive and beneficial.A Future made from Waste.
The collection was originally inspired by the climbing centre near where I grew up. A climbing centre built into a quarry, the new fake rock with the old rock somewhat displaced. Coupled with the idea of a futuristic aesthetic made from waste products. I found this idea combined in the Copen Hill Power Plant in Copenhagen. A ski centre with a climbing wall built on top of a recycling centre in the middle of the city. The hybridisation of all of these elements makes up the collection.
The collections colour scheme is centre around white and grey with touches of bright colours. This idea stems from the climbing walls with brightly coloured holds on them. The white has a utopian hopefulness that brings connotations of futuristic and makes an interesting comparison with the dystopian feel of the collection. The materials used for this collection are all scavenged. The canvas is a waste product of framing, the leather is scrap leather, and the other fabrics are upcycled or recycled.
