“A passage to India”
As a lover of Indian food, culture, vibrancy and energy, I chose to base my final collection on India with links to the delicate nature of marble inlay, as well as the colourful marigolds which flood the dusty markets. My colour palette has been drawn from imagery deep within the bustling Indian markets, full of spices, exotic fruits, vegetables, and of course, the endless garlands of marigolds scattered on the floors. Visiting markets closer to home, I also tried to capture imagery of my own to work from. Specialising in knitwear, this year has been a wonderful way for me to expand and explore my skills on the industrial Dubied knitting machine, learning from many mistakes along the way and loving the journey. I chose to mainly use cotton yarn within my work due to India’s long history of producing and exporting cotton textiles, as well as it being a light and breathable textile, ideal for a Spring / Summer collection.
As a designer, I would like to be noticed for my use of colour and warmth within textiles, enabling people to spark some happiness and excitement just by a glance.
