Our own bedroom
To make, evaluate and record a large scale installation, constructed out of 20m lining paper, using two fine art influences.
How the spatial intervention/installation manipulated the experience of the space when our body’s interacted with it.
I decided to use nature as my inspiration ‘Biophilic design’ is how nature affects us (humans).
I decided to do two iterations above my bed area, the first being; a tree canopy. The intention of the tree canopy was to make me feel calm, nestled and secure. It immediately enhanced feelings of autonomy making me want to read, breath and feel more relaxed.
The second iteration included my two fine art influences, Michael Heizer “Levitated Mass” and Christo “Wrapped Jerry Can.” It involved taking down the tree canopy, adding a wire mesh frame, rope and re-using/ re-purposing the lining paper into a papier mache rock. The suspended rock was meant to reflect risk, danger and peril.
It changed my emotional state into feeling depressed, static and claustrophobic.
I would be interested to see if the experience would change if the rock was suspended above a boardroom table, would it stimulate my cognitive function and heighten my senses, in turn making meetings more efficient and effective?
