BA(Hons) Photography
Welcome to the BA(Hons) Photography Graduate Show!
The photography students present a broad range of concepts, forms and practices which are reflected in their study. This year’s graduates embrace contemporary photographic practice through their own unique lexicons and established use of the medium. They explore, experiment, subvert and refine their selected methods which best depict their research. Our students develop ideas through research in many forms; students intertwine ideas with research, research through experimentation and through the exploration of acquired technical skills. They experiment extensively with digital and chemical processes which often overlap; they embrace hybrid forms of established traditions and yet understand the importance of the historical context. For the graduation exhibition students engaged with installation design which facilitates their varied practices, initiating conversations about how their practice sits within contemporary photography.
The work presented on these pages presents digitalised versions of projects that extend beyond these confines. Students have worked hard to refine material projects that incorporate a diverse range of outputs, including but not limited to: installation design, sculptural forms, image and sound, photographic books, portfolios and moving image. This expanded practice informs extraordinary investment into a range of research tackling local, global and personal issues which encompass political, environmental, social and cultural concepts, often requiring students to reach out, collaborate and engage with their subjects.
This year’s work is an excellent representation of the multifaceted medium photography has become. Students present dedicated and innovative projects that are progressive, explorative and address important issues in the present day.
Congratulations to all our students!
