BA(Hons) Fine Art Painting
Welcome to the online part of this year’s BA (hons) Fine Art Painting Graduate exhibition! It’s important to note that this is only the web-based part as, for the first time since the pandemic, the graduate shows will also exist in real as well as virtual spaces.
What you’ll see here, is art covering a huge range of different practices, some celebrating, others challenging painting, but on-site you’ll also see it the way art is supposed to be seen: up close and personal, and where you can experience all the glory of the physicality of the works.
This year’s exhibition is not only a testament to this most enduring of art forms, but also to the courage and tenacity of a year-group of students who have fought through and emerged successfully from these uncertain times. To all of these students, we salute you!
Painting has been taught at Brighton for over 150 years. Our degree at Brighton is one of the few courses in the UK that offers specialist study in the subject, and builds on this history by questioning and redefining the role of painting in a changing society. The course is studio based, enabling vital ‘hands-on’, learning by doing. It has fostered some of the UK’s leading artists, and many of our graduates have made significant contributions to the fine art arena and related cultural spheres.
We hope you enjoy the work you see here and, at last, after a long and difficult time, in our building at Grand Parade too!
