Amanda Lowe
Hello! My name is Amanda Lowe. Originally a primary school teacher, I have spent the last three years studying on the Digital Media, Culture and Society MA.
I have developed a keen interest in diversity and inclusion, particularly gender equality. Through the modules on Social and Digital Media Activism and Participatory Media Production for Social Change, I have developed my knowledge, understanding and interest in the broad area of diversity and inclusion. This is being further developed through my dissertation research where I am looking at gender equality in the armed forces, using the photo voice method.
The work being shown here is from the Big Data, Culture and Society module. I elected this module to do something different, however enjoyed exploring how big data will develop into the future and how implications of big data link to issues surrounding diversity and inclusion.
My future data scenario looks at what might happen if Google controlled people’s social scores using surveillance to do this. These social scores unlock a persons access to different tiers of amenities. This would lead to issues surrounding morals and privacy issues as well as the social divides caused by capitalism. The poster below shows a resistance to this Google-led regime and how a small group could overpower it! Accompanying the poster is a short report on the data scenario.
